Membership

The membership fee for 2009/2010 is £44 a year for Cambridge University members, £56  for non-university members. This includes a record book so that you can keep a record of how you shoot each week, and a tin of pellets to get you started.

It is also possible to come to the range for a 'taster' session. One session's shooting, with targets and ammunition, costs £5. This is good if you just fancy a go, or want to bring a friend along to a session. The number of taster sessions is limited to 2 per person, before we ask you to take out an annual membership.

Membership forms can be downloaded here. This must be filled in, printed out and then signed by you and your tutor/supervisor. We also ask that you provide two passport sized photographs.

Competitions

There are many opportunities to shoot in competitions during the year. None of the competitions are compulsory, but they come highly recommended and there is always a competition to suit your standard.

Beginners' Competition:

This is held near the beginning of Michaelmas term and is a chance for very new members to shoot against each other, with no old hands getting in the way, and win fantastic prizes!

Handicap Match:

This is held throughout Michaelmas term and is a chance for all members regardless of capability to shoot against each other, as a handicap system is imposed.

CUSBC - CURPC Gallery Rifle Match:

This is held near the end of Michaelmas term and is shot against the small-bore club, CUSBC, using our small-bore gallery rifles. Introduced in 2008.

Past and Present Match:

This is held at the end of Michaelmas term and is the first match of the academic year against Oxford and the past members of each club. A great day out at Bisley and one of the few chances to shoot .357 gallery rifles.

Intershoot, The Hague, Holland:

Intershoot is an annual, international, three day competition held in February and is a chance for club members to shoot against national squads from around the world. Above all it is an excellent environment to improve your shooting and is extremely good fun. Because this is an international event there is a qualifying score of 500/600 to enter.

Varsity Match:

This is the annual competition, also held in February, against Oxford, in which club members have the chance to gain a half blue. The competition is very friendly, but the idea is still to beat Oxford by as much as possible.

Imperial Meeting, Bisley:

This meet is an excellent opportunity to shoot on an outside range and also is one of the competitions in which the club shoots lightweight sporting rifle. A year isn't complete until you have shot at Bisley, especially when it's muddy!

Cambridgeshire League:

There are two leagues a year, winter and summer. This is a postal competition in which competitors shoot each round by a set date. There is no minimum requirement and competitors are entered into different groups depending on their average. Club members shoot their rounds during the normal club sessions and then hand in their targets to the organiser.
